Intermission - Protect yer Beat Clean

about

October of 2019 I watched the first episode of the Hulu show chronicling the origins of the Wu-Tang Clan. Before I even made it through the episode my my brain was working out beats. After episode one I decided I would make a RZA style beat after every episode as watching it made me want nothing more than to work on kick ass tracks. So I went to work on what I thought was the most RZA beat I could ever make, saved my progress and went to bed.

The next morning I woke and listened back to my work and had to laugh. This sounded nothing like a beat, but a LCD Soundsystem rip off. I still wonder what was going through my head while I was putting it together. I couldn't have come up with something further from my intention if I had tried.

But if there is a moral to the story it might be that it matters less if a show, or film, or book, or painting inspires you to make a certain type of art and more that it inspires you to create at all.
